Leverage Your Friends and Family to Sell T-Shirts

Whenever you start a new business these are always the first people you go to. They want you to succeed. They will be very interested in what you have to offer. Not only that, but they may have additional ideas as to where you can sell your shirts. Nobody will champion your cause more than your family.

Sell Your Shirts  With Your Own eCommerce Website

Building a website for your business is not difficult. You just need a domain name, hosting, and of course the website. There are many possible ways to achieve this massive feat. There are drag and drop builders like Wix and Squarespace. There are also stores that are practically ready to go right out of the box like Shopify. You can even have a website designed and built for you. The cost of building websites has come down. If you can do it yourself, that’s the most cost effective way to get things done.

While running a website to sell your own t-shirts is not something that you may have any interest in doing, remember that maintaining a physical store is something that you may have never considered either. A physical store and a website are practically the same thing when it comes to business. Both have upkeep and maintenance.

Influencers

This seems crazy, but you can give your shirts to influential people. When somebody asks them where they got the shirt, they will tell them it was you. Not all influencers will just wear your shirts for free. You may have to pay them. You may have to negotiate a cut of the sales. Some influencers are savvy business people and can truly help your business while others would be happy for the free t-shirt. Evaluate each influencer carefully and decide whether they will help your business.

Independent Stores

This is where it gets interesting. You can contact independent stores and try to strike a deal with them to sell your shirts. You can sell them wholesale or on consignment. There are a lot of different types of stores that you can sell them to, you may want to make up a small flyer or catalogue to sell the shirts.

Store Buyers

There are people who have a keen eye for products that can “sell” in a chain. They typically have specific places they think it will sell across their brand. This could be as simple as one store, or it could be something on a much larger level. It is not uncommon for a buyer to purchase products for an entire region of the country, or for the entire country. This could entail a lot of stores. When this happens they will give you a purchase order for a large quantity. In some cases it will be difficult to fill this order because it will be so large. You would need to purchase a lot of blanks and a lot of ink for this. Not to mention the amount it is going to cost in labor to get this order out the door. The cost could be astronomical. You will have to consider if you can fulfill this order in the first place. If you foresee that you will not have the necessary financial resources to accommodate an order this size then you can attempt to get a line of credit from a financial institution. Many banks will give small businesses loans to get them through various financial issues. Remember to take the purchase order with you when you go to speak with the lender. They will want to see proof that you have the sale in hand before handing out the cash. It is imperative that you fulfill your orders as promised. If you want to do repeat business with a company you will need to keep them satisfied.

Craft Fairs

You may think that craft fairs are for older people who want to decorate their homes with quilts and doilies. This is not true. There are a lot of different types of craft fairs. Schools, churches, neighborhoods, even niches like rock and roll or steampunk have fairs that sell all sorts of things. You will need tables and containers to sell your wares, but the cost of this will pay for itself over time.  There are craft fairs all over the country all the time. Do some investigation and you will find ample craft fairs near you. However, there will be an abundance of craft fairs in the fall and towards Christmas.

The final word about places you can sell your shirts.

You don’t need a store to sell your shirts. There are ways to get the product moving without paying rent. Think outside the box and come up with a list of places that you can sell shirts at and figure out an angle for getting your shirts sold there.
